On the arriving of November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the anti-domestic violence billboards, made by the Anti-Domestic Violence Network (ADVN), appeared in the busy streets of Beijing. Renowned actor Wang Xuebing played the main role in the charity advertisement. Since he starred in the TV series Don't Respond to Strangers, with the topic of anti-domestic violence in 2002, Wang has been named the ambassador of anti-domestic violence. In early November he flied to Beijing from Shanghai in spite of busy work and heavy snow, to take part in the ad-making.
On the billboards, Wang, smiling, makes a gesture of heart with hands, expressing the theme of getting rid of violence and loving each other. Behind Wang, there is the group photo of delegates from different departments involving anti-domestic violence, including police, judges, doctors, civil affair officials, women's federation staff and volunteers.
In a long time, anti-domestic violence has been considered a depressive topic in China. The new advertisement stresses the theme of warmth and loving each other, advocates the idea of multi-organization cooperation, and calls on the whole society to fight against domestic violence.
Every year, during the 16 days from November 25 to December 10, the Human Rights Day, many women's NGOs in China organize jointly activities to publicize knowledge on anti-domestic violence, and advocate protecting women's rights by law. The new advertisement, an important part of the ADVN's publicity plan, was the beginning of the 16-day actions in 2009.
The distribution of the advertisement was greatly supported by the White Horse Adshel. It appeared on billboards in the busy streets of Beijing, including Longfu Square, Zuojiazhuang, Great Wall Hotel, Jiangguang Center, Workers' Stadium, Hepingli Nankou, Baishiqiao and Chaoyang Park.
