16-day Action: ADVN President attends the National Conference on Violence against Women and Male Involvement

On November 25, the 10th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the National Conference on Violence against Women and Male Involvement was held jointly by All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA). The conference also marks the launch of the UN Trust Fund Joint Program on Preventing and Responding to Domestic Violence in China through a multi-sectoral approach.
 
ACWF Vice-President Zhen Yan, Khalid Malik, the UNDP Resident Representative in China, Dr. Bernard Coquelin, the representative of UNFPA China and Chen Mingxia, President of the Anti-domestic Violence Network (ADVN) attended the conference.
                                    
On the opening ceremony, Chen introduced the development of anti-domestic violence work in China and the ADVN's efforts on promoting legislation, men's involvement and multi-sectoral cooperation to address violence against women (VAW).
 
The conference aimed to integrate the study results and intervention experience on fighting VAW, raise social awareness of anti-VAW, and promote China's legislation, policy-making, research and actions to end VAW. Four UN agencies UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA and UNIFEM will work together closely on preventing and responding to domestic violence with key government and NGO partners.
 
During the two-day conference, participants shared the international anti-VAW experience, by speeches and group discussions, on theory and legal research, legal aid, community intervention, medical intervention, psychological assistance, male engagement, media and women's NGOs' involvement.
 
ADVN officials Hou Zhiming and Wang Yi also attended the conference. Hou gave a speech titled Promote the Gender Mainstreaming in Fighting Domestic Violence Taking Police's Involvement for Instance.
