[Picture]University students say no to gender-based violence (GBV)

The Anti-GBV League of Capital Universities was launched in Beijing on December 6, 2009. Teachers and students from eight Beijing-based universities and delegates of the Anti-Domestic Violence Network (ADVN) participated in the launching ceremony.
 

Launched by Capital Normal University and guided by the ADVN, the league is a volunteer group which calls for gender equality. Its members include Capital Normal University, Beijing Normal University, China Agricultural University, the University of International Business and Economics, People's University of China, China Women's University, Beijing Forestry University and China University of Political Science and Law. The activity was reported by Beijing Youth Daily, Sina, Procuratorial Daily and China Women's News.
                                                    
During the ceremony, Teacher Li Xin announced the establishment of the league and introduced the background information. Teacher Li Yumei, from the Law School of China Agricultural University gave a speech on behalf of the league members. Li Zilong, a student from Capital Normal University, gave a specific introduction on the details of photo exhibition Anti-dating Violence. Chen Mingxia, the President of the ADVN and Director Wan Xiang of the research department of China Law Society addressed the opening ceremony.
 
An art performance titled "No Violence and Cherish the Love" was held after the opening ceremony in the building of China Law Society. The performance introduced the violence cases happened around us, encouraged more women to fight the GBV and seek harmonious dating and marriage.
                                                                             

Teacher Wang Xiangxian, from Tianjin Normal University gave suggestions to the photo exhibition based on his own experience. ADVN Councilor Ge Youli made a comment on the performance.
 
Twenty years ago, a white ribbon campaign was started after 14 innocent female university students were killed by a man; ten years ago, the United Nations kicked off the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence from November 25 to December 10 and proclaimed December 6 as the White Ribbon Day, on which women's organizations around the world have held various activities to protect women's rights and stop the violence against women.
                                                                        

The launching of the league was to celebrate the White Ribbon Day and aimed to spur more young students to fight against GBV and build an equal and violence-free world.
