[Picture]Community Celebration to mark the 100th Anniversary of the International Women’s Day in Fengtai, Beijing

A celebration themed “Women making achievements and responding to the initiative” was launched on March 6, 2010 in Fengtai District in Beijing to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day. The activity was jointly sponsored by the Youan Neighborhood Working Committee and the Youan Neighborhood Office and the Anti-Domestic Violence Network affiliated to the China Law Society. Wang Bailing and Du Laiquan, the Committee’s secretary and director, Liu Rongrong, chairwoman of the District’s Women’s Federation and Chen Mingxia, chairwoman of the Network’s board, were present at the activity and they delivered speeches. The activity started with a hip-hop dancing performed by a team of local middle-aged and senior residents.
                                    
The horary title of “Five-good families” were awarded to several families by the Neighborhood Office and the Working Committee. On behalf of the Network, Chen awarded an honorary board to the Neighborhood, designating the neighborhood as a pilot unit in combating domestic violence through multi-agency collaboration among Beijing’s urban her communities. “The honorary board is the first of its kind awarded by the Network in 10 years. It resulted from the efforts made by the local residents and the community over 10 years,” Chen Said. She then issued horary certificates to 10 outstanding volunteers for their achievements in promoting anti-domestic violence. “The multi-agency collaborative work will play an exemplary role for communities in Beijing as well as throughout China,” Chen added.
                                  
The celebration was accompanied by many self-created art performance by the participants. Local residents performed a rhythmic story-telling titled Harmonious Family, Mongolian dancing and belly dancing; students from Beijing College Students Alliance for Anti-domestic Violence sang songs titled Dad, I come back and The World of Love Becomes More Wonderful Because of you.
  
More than 100 people, including the news media reporters, watched the performances. The activity fully displayed the achievements and talents of the local women.
