On March 1, 2010, the Anti-Domestic Violence Network affiliated to the China Law Society held a seminar to call for legislation on anti-domestic violence. Relevant leaders and experts discussed the feasibility of introducing legislation on domestic violence elimination in China. The recommended draft of the Anti-domestic Violence Law was discussed.
The recommended draft is a result of the Project of Revision and Advocate of the Anti-domestic Violence Law initiated by the Network; it’s based on the recommended draft submitted to the two national conferences held in 2003 in the third phase of the project. The original draft wasn’t adopted by the legislature due to inopportune opportunity. During the past years, the Network has reorganized an expert panel to revise the draft. And it’s now the 7th edition.
Before the opening of the two national conferences, the Network would submit the latest draft and some expert study results to the legislature, in a wish to push forward the legislation.
It’s said that many deputies and committee members made proposals on legislation on anti-domestic violence. Shang Shaohua, CPPCC National Committee member continued her efforts in proposing for the legislation. Chen Xiurong, Vice-chairperson of the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) also made similar proposals at the two conferences.
